Sale of SPC: A Unique Opportunity Amid Greater Shepparton’s Economic Resurgence

The Committee for Greater Shepparton note the proposed sale of SPC by Coca Cola Amatil and sees this development as a great opportunity for a region that is experiencing an economic resurgence.

Comments attributed to Sam Birrell;

“C4GS sees the sale of SPC as an opportunity for the region and any prospective buyer. SPC is an iconic, trusted brand, and that trust comes from the clean, high quality food that is grown in this region. We have the combination of soil, climate and water that would be suitable for a wide range of foods. To have a versatile manufacturing facility in the heart of such an agricultural region indicates the potential of SPC, and we trust that potential buyers would understand this”.

“It is important to note the context in which this sale occurs. The Shepparton region is experiencing a resurgence in its economy and growth. Over $500 million worth of government infrastructure projects are underway or about to be started, including Goulburn Valley Health stage 1, the upgrade of the Shepparton rail corridor and the new Shepparton Art Museum. There has been over $400 million of investment is dairy processing facilities in the past few years. Export markets are opening up for fresh Australian stone fruit, which is seeing a positive future for the local fruit industry. The sale of SPC, while creating some short-term uncertainty, is not an indicator of a region in decline. Whoever buys SPC is purchasing a vibrant business in a resurgent city.”
