C4GS Gets on Board to Promote Local Manufacturing during Australian Made Week
Manufacturing is alive and thriving in Greater Shepparton and as part of the inaugural Australian Made Week, the Committee for Greater Shepparton wants to encourage all those in the region to support our local manufacturers by buying Australian.
Running from Monday 24 May to 30 May 2021, Australian Made Week is all about encouraging shoppers to actively focus their buying activities on genuine Aussie products while celebrating and supporting local makers and growers around the country.
Getting behind the campaign, Committee for Greater Shepparton Chief Executive Officer Sam Birrell said the Goulburn region produces 30.1 percent of Victoria’s fruit production by value and almost 50 per cent of the state’s fruit production by value (excluding grapes) and accounts for 12.6 per cent of Victoria’s dairy production.
“The region’s main industries are agriculture and manufacturing and in terms of gross value-added activity, manufacturing is the largest performing sector in Greater Shepparton, generating $514 million in 2019,” Mr Birrell said.
“It is imperative for the region and the entire country that we support this extremely important industry that not only produces great food and fibre, household cleaning products and innovative engineering solutions, but provides many jobs across Greater Shepparton.”
To celebrate the week, the Committee for Greater Shepparton will be hosting a Member’s Manufacturing Breakfast which includes a panel discussion with local leaders in manufacturing from Pental Products, Freedom Foods, SPC and Bega/Tatura Milk. The panel will discuss the changes that have occurred in Aussie manufacturing as a result of COVID-19 and post-pandemic and what governments can do to assist manufacturers in the region.
“To showcase the breadth of products we have here in the region we visited one of our local supermarkets and filled our trolley with all locally manufactured products and it was truly amazing to see just how many we actually make in our own backyard,” Mr Birrell said.
“I encourage everyone to support the Australian manufacturing industry and when you are out at the supermarket or shopping in general, make a concerted effort to check that the product was made in Australia, and if possible, in Greater Shepparton.”
