The Committee for Greater Shepparton (C4GS) congratulates Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Federal Labor’s re-election and urges the Government to work closely with C4GS and other regional stakeholders to strengthen regional communities, regional industries and Australia’s food, water and energy security.
“Our region has a key role in delivering the Albanese Government’s commitment to secure Australia’s food future with the development of a new national food security strategy: Feeding Australia, and we are ready to work with the Government to put their commitment into action,” said C4GS Chair Leigh Findlay.
“Water and energy security, workforce, skills and housing, and efficient national freight networks are key to food security, and our region is driving effective policy and solutions on every one of these fronts,” Mr Findlay said.
“We look forward to working constructively with the Albanese Government to deliver better outcomes for our producers and processors, and greater certainty for Australian consumers,” he said.
Greater Shepparton sits at the heart of Australia’s food bowl and is home to iconic Australian brands and world-leading businesses. Our food and grocery staples are trusted by consumers around the globe and appear in supermarket trollies across the nation every week.
C4GS is also eager to see its communities involved in the development of regionally-relevant policy reforms that can deliver increased housing supply and diversity, improve access to education and training opportunities, and that recognise the vital importance of migration to regional economies and communities.
“As one of Australia’s most culturally diverse communities, and home to one of the largest first nation’s communities outside a capital city, we have the community and the experience to help shape policy that works for the regions and for communities across Australia,” Mr Findlay said.
